As WG said, it shouldn't be so strong as to be considered mandatory for random battle use, so maybe DM of the past was a tad strong, but it was also over nerfed. Now the following is purely my opinion, but I feel that if the upgrades are to cost as much as nearly 1/2 of a Research Bureau ship, then all 'upgrades' should at least upgrade the ship a bit. Also, while WG doesn't publish usage rates (wish they did though), quite a few of UU's are undoubtedly unpopular as as being uncomplimentary to a ship's strengths like Wooster, Daring, Z52 or have been left behind by the long range meta like GK. On the last round of major changes (mostly nerfs but a couple buffs) it was implied that they wouldīe paying close attention to how popular various upgrades were and those that were too popular would be nerfed, as Des Moines' was (along with Monty's, Zao's,, and those out of favor would be buffed, as Shima's was (even if only slightly).Īfter that initial burst of interest in Unique Upgrades, WG basically went silent on them for the next 6 months until recently. They seem to give them attention in fits and spurts. It's interesting how inconsistent WG's commitment to legendary.

When RNG cooperates a little, it's a reminder of how broken 'Deadeye' was. Not to mention Cruiser players adopting Lighthouse Builds and possibly having less penalties on their attackers' accuracy as a result. How is that a good thing?!?īut it's a worthwhile trade for a lot better accuracy on a ship that is built around so much for LOLPEN guns. The UU for the Gearing slows down the reloads for all its guns and its torpedo tubes for less benefit than a standard equipment mod and captain skill. The combined effect is better than the UU at no increase in weapon reload times. Add captain skill Concealment Expert for another -10% to ship detectability range. However, Concealment System Modification 1 in the 5th slot gives ship's detectability range -10% and dispersion of enemy shells +5%.

The benefits from the Gearing UU in the 5th equipment slot are ship's detectability range -15% and enemy shell dispersion +5% at the cost of main battery reload time +15% and torpedo reload time +5%. I plan on getting the one for Gearing next. The upgrade for both Gearing and Henri seem to get positive reviews too. I only have the one for DM and it is pretty darn worth it if you have the spare points and a ship isn’t on your list.
